We are seeking a Software Engineer II to lead key projects and initiatives on the Fraud Decisioning team. In this remote role, you will build and optimize tools and systems that enhance Affirm’s fraud-fighting capabilities. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to adopt and monitor these tools, using data-driven insights to improve fraud prevention systems. Our goal is to drive growth while safeguarding Affirm, consumers, and merchants by leveraging data to assess risk at crucial stages and introducing new fraud prevention strategies.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with your team’s tech lead and manager to break down larger projects into smaller tasks, delivering them in phases.
- Partner with product management, design, and analytics teams to contribute to the product development lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and ensuring balanced decisions.
- Support your team’s operational tasks by creating and monitoring key metrics, escalating issues when needed, and contributing to on-call and “keep the lights on” efforts.
- Foster team growth by participating in activities such as interviews and technical discussions.
What We Look For
- 2+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Proficiency in designing, developing, and launching backend systems using Python or Kotlin.
- Experience with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to solve business challenges by developing clear, well-tested, and extensible code that interacts with multiple software components.
- Strong debugging skills and experience in reviewing and providing feedback on code.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across global engineering teams.
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience is required.
Compensation & Benefits
Affirm offers a transparent pay structure, with base pay determined by location, experience, and job-related skills. In addition to base pay, the total compensation package may include equity rewards, monthly health and tech stipends, and full benefits (including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents).
- USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $160,000 – $210,000/year
- USA base pay range (all other U.S. states): $142,000 – $192,000/year
